The Artist Book

2 Day

Bookmaking Workshop
with Janet Parker-Smith

Learn the processes of bookmaking and the artist book. During this course, learn skills in how to make handmade books including a Japanese bound book, single signature soft bound book, concertina book and a Coptic bind hard cover journal.

You will also work on a self-directed artwork from an existing book using processes to create a deconstructed/altered artist book.

Over the course of the 2 days students will acquire skills in book-binding and learn 3 different types of binds. Using existing prints, textured papers or plain drawing papers you can create your own journals and artist books.  Through the process of experimentation students will also be able to explore the processes of folds, cutting and construction to create an artist book from an existing book.  Students will need to bring at least 1 book that they can deconstruct/alter (a hard cover book if preferable).
