3-Etching on Copper with Ferric Chloride

Service Description
Students will learn about the traditional etching techniques on copper plates using hardground, then draw into the surface with an etching needle and etch using the safer ferric chloride instead of acid. From this initial form students will add tone by cross-hatching and re etching several times. Further progress on a 2nd plate students will complete a softground and draw or press objects into the surface to allow a soft mark or texture. From here Students will add dry point lines (dense black) directly onto the plate using a sharp point to highlight areas of the image. Finally students will add tone to areas using enamel spray paint to produce an even tone in specific areas. Advanced activity will be printing on Japanese Iwaki paper for a special effect and applying colour. $420 for 3 day workshop Copper plates and printmaking paper available to purchased from the studio.
