Course Outline: Traditional & contemporary printmaking using intaglio
& relief techniques. The course will cover woodblock, lino block, drypoint,
etching using aluminium, copper & zinc plates & photopolymer.
The evening class is designed to help students with HSC major works but other
students are also welcome.

Course Outline: Photopolymer, drypoint, aluminium etchings, waterless lithography & relief prints hand printed onto Japanese papers with baren. Students will be encouraged to experiment with other media & to learn new techniques offered by the studio.

Course Outline: Learn how to prepare for an exhibition while receiving help with creating the prints for the show. Information will be available on how to edition, exhibition invitations, media releases, framing & hanging of your work. Not suitable for the beginner.

Course Outline: Both classes encourage creative freedom to explore the different printmaking media at the individual’s own pace and caters to all levels, from the more experienced students wanting to further skills to the
beginners who are most welcome.

Course Outline: This eight-week course will cover the foundation skills applied in printmaking through a range of methods & techniques. Exploring safer printmaking practices while preparing intaglio & relief plates ready for fine art printing. Techniques will include Etching, Woodcut, Linocut & Collagraph. For beginning & experienced artists.

| Casual Rate $5.00 per person per hour. Commercial Rate Members editioning for other artists must pay the commercial rate of $6.50 per hour. Exclusive Rate Full members may also book use of the Studio exclusively for editioning purposes at the rate of $90 per person per day. A Studio Orientation to assess readiness for access is free to students who have completed at least one full term of classes. New members applying for access will be charged a $20.00 fee. |
Pre Paid Rate - conditions apply Discounts are available if access time is paid for in advance for a regular time slot each week. Users must be prepared to let Studio events & exhibitions take precedence & will not necessarily use the maximum hours allowed. There is no refund or compensation for hours not used. The workshop is open to all ability levels. Students are required to bring an image, lino and suitable tools.
The workshop will cover:
The creation of an image using direct drawing and carbon transfer.
Negative and positive, the basics of a relief design.
Direct cutting techniques / specific tools for maximum effects.
Looking beyond the square; easy ways to cut lino into any shape or size.
Effective inking techniques; how to know if your block is underinked / overinked or if deeper cutting is required.
How to achieve the perfect print using available materials printing press, baren, wooden spoon.
Placement of your lino / printing a clean image.
Colour printing / blending, the two block method.
Hand colouring.
Numbering, dating and signing your original print.
Cleaning and caring for your lino, tools and rollers.

This two day intensive workshop will explore a variety of image-making techniques. It will combine the expressive qualities of drypoint with the possibilities of monoprinting processes to achieve unique state prints.
Martin King is Senior Printer at Australian Print Workshop and has worked with many of Australia's leading artists. His own work as an artist is well known and he exhibits regularly with King Street Gallery on William in Sydney and Port Jackson Press in Melbourne. He recently won the Broken Hill Art Prize.
